Fevers and Snuggles, Oh My!

Today, my little adorable Monkey woke up with a fever. Really the first one that he's had of any sort of significance in his entire life, you know, all 385 or so days. He's felt warm on some days, but never this hot. I took his temp with our ear thermometer that I hate, it never seems to give an accurate temp, but it's also never said any of our temperatures has been over 98 and today it read at 100, which probably means he was more around 101 or 102.

I digress.

Maddox is not a normally snuggly guy. He's much too busy for that. He'd rather be off playing with all of his toys, of course with Mommy a safe distance away, 5 feet at the very most, his choice not mine, I assure you.

Today, all Maddox wanted to do was snuggle, he would put his head on my shoulder when I was carrying him around. We went to the church and helped Daddy put together some things and afterwards we sat together on the couch, with his sweet little head resting on my chest, and watched an episode of Gilmore Girls. About 30 minutes later, he was sound asleep. I ever so gently moved him to his bed so he would sleep well. Such a sweet moment for me because he never has the patience to sit on the couch with me, unless there is food to be had, that is.

Needless to say, I think it's great that in not-so-great times of sickness, and when feeling run down the most (from carrying 21 pounds of child around all day), God gives me little precious moments of pure joy that just make it all seem much better.

Here's too a good night sleep, even though I'm not counting on it!

Oh, and on a totally funny note, it was quite humorous watching Maddox try to walk today. He's already not very good at it and add a fever to that and you've got yourself one drunk sailor for a little walker!

Walking

Not me, I've been walking for years, over 24 years, to be exact.

But, it's a new thing for Maddox, he just started taking steps on his own last week and is doing very well at it. He's definitely cautious and timid, but he's doing great. His favorite is to walk back and forth between Mommy and Daddy. He's even getting the hang of turning around on his feet. So cute.

Since the broken nose incident we haven't been encouraging too much walking because we wanted to make sure it healed up real well. So, he's pretty much there, now and at times unstoppable.

100th Post

Yes, today is that day. I've officially written 100 posts. Woohoo! The bummer thing is that I don't have anything too terribly important to say!

Maddox is healing up amazingly fast. The bridge of his nose is pretty blue, but he doesn't have any black eyes or anything. The swelling is minimal and from what my eyes can see his nose still looks straight. All very good things. We have an appt. on Friday and his Dr. will take a look and give us her opinion.

Pictures of the Broken Nose

Maddox is recovering well from his mishap. The swelling has gone down considerably and is just looking pretty bruised at this point. He's been a trooper and has hardly been acting like he's in pain at all. I was able to move up his 1 year appt. 1 week (huge answer to prayer because our Dr. is VERY hard to get into) so he can be examined on Friday by his PCP to make sure that it's not crooked. It's looking pretty straight at this point, so I don't think that they'll need to straighten it, but I'm no Dr. and really can't say.

Here are a few pictures of yesterday, about 1 1/2 hours after it happened. The blood on his eye brow is just some blood from his nose, it's not a cut.

Broken Nose

The weekend went great and I wish I could say that there were not injuries. But, that would be a lie. As we were heading down stairs to load up the vehicle, Maddox fell and broke his nose :-( It broke my heart to see him in so much pain. Poor guy has screamed like he's never screamed before. The terrible part is, is that it was my fault and that makes the pain even worse. He wanted to play with the handle on an ice chest, so I set him down on it. I had my hand behind him (that's usually the direction he falls), and instead he fell forward straight onto his little nose, on tile. A friend drove us to the hospital while Kyle worked on arrangements to get our kids back home. He met us at the hospital and Bonnie ran the kids back home for us. Maddox is now resting soundly. We have some pictures of the big swollen nose, but I'm too tired to upload them right now. They basically can't do anything for his nose other than just let it heal on it's own. They don't think it's crooked, but we won't be able to tell that until the swelling goes down, then at that point they might need to set it properly. We're praying that that's not the case. There is also a possibility that the cartilage is just bruised as well (what we're really hoping for). I'm off to nap while Maddox does since I'm exhausted.

I'm Out-ey!

For a couple of days I won't post. I'll be back Monday. Have a fabulous long weekend, for those of you special enough to get President's Day off!

And, We're Off...

Again!

Tomorrow, we head to a youth conference with 15 students high school students. It's put on by our denomination (The Christian and Missionary Alliance) and they do a fantastic job. There will be over 700 students there this year from the Northwest.

It's getting more difficult to go on these types of things with Maddox, but since we don't have family in town, we just don't have any other options. I suppose my next option would be to just not go, but Kyle likes having my support at things like this, and I really like helping him out. So, we'll just make do and do the best that we can. We missed last year's conference because Maddox was born 4 days before it started, so one of our leaders stepped in and took the kids.

Unfortunately, I just realized that we forgot to find a place for our dog! And, she can't stay locked up in her crate for 3 days! I guess I have a project.

Happy 1st Birthday!!!!!

Finally, it's here, the day that I waited 9 whole months for...last year. Maddox turns 1 today! Not officially until 8:54pm, but really, who's counting. After 36 hours of labor, he finally decided to enter the world.

I truly can't believe it's already been a year, it just blows my mind. The first few months seemed to drag, but I'm sure that is because of lack of sleep, the last part of the year just flew and here we are one whole year later.

For those of you who don't know my little monkey, he has the best temperament, and always has. He seriously hardly ever cries. When he was first born we were shocked, he only cried when it came time to change his diaper, he really didn't like that. My mom says I only get one good one, so here's to you, Maddox! I couldn't ask for a better baby, I love you SO much and I adore being your Mommy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

One Year Ago Today...

I woke up at 6:00am feeling labor pains 3 min. apart. They continued all day long...

Kyle and I drove to the hospital at 8pm to see what was going on. I was 1 cm dilated and still feeling labor pains 3 minutes apart.

They sent me home with sleeping pills...I didn't sleep.

That was my day.

Family Visit

My parents are here for Maddox's birthday. We had him dedicated at church yesterday and then we had a little birthday party with my parents, Kyle's mom and some friends of ours from church who have 3 kids. Everybody seemed to have a great time and Maddox sure loved his first cupcake! He gently ate the frosting off the top and then smashed the cupcake and ate it. I think he was pretty happy with his first real taste of sugar :-)

On a side note, today is my first day off of wheat. I'm trying to cut it out for a week and see if it's the root of my skin problems (I have lots of eczema-really dry skin). If it's not, I'm off to a natruopath to see if he can help. I thought I'd try to self-diagnose before pouring tons of money into it.

4:30am

4:30am is not morning.

4:30am is the middle of the night.

4:30am is not a time that Mommy wants to get up for the day.

4:30am is a great time for Grandpa to get up with a boy because it's really 5:30am in his head because he's on Boise time.

Yippee! I Won!

Thanks to all of my hard work entering drawings, I won two things! The first was a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble from Michelle and Life's Accidental Journey. The second is a Yoga Mommies DVD from Angela at Seven Dogs and a Baby. Both are items that I REALLY, REALLY wanted! Thank you very much for offering the great giveaways! Next time I around I hope to offer something myself, I just didn't have time, this time around.

Work Frustration

I work part-time for the church doing the bookkeeping. It requires all of about 15 hours of my time a month and I'm well compensated for my time and I get to do it from home. I enjoy doing it because it challenges me and uses a part of my brain I fail to use most of the month (that part that has to look at numbers a lot). I went to reconcile the check book yesterday afternoon during nap time and instead have spent 6 hours trying to troubleshoot a problem. Usually, reconciling takes about 15-30 minutes.

Oh no, not yesterday. I found the problem, but not after many, many frustrating hours. All you have to do it make one little teeny tiny mistake and it can take HOURS to fix. It was a little mistake I had made months ago and I thought that correcting the problem would be no big deal, instead, it messed up reconciliations for pretty much the whole year! Oh well, it's done and now I'm happy.

6am

6am is early.

6am is too early.

6am is too early for my Monkey to wake up.

6am is way too early for Monkey to wake me up.

6am is too early for Monkey to wake me up 3 days in a row.

6am wakeup calls are not something that I like very much, but him waking up happy is most appreciated.

630am the time I put Monkey back to bed this morning whether he wanted to or not, yes, I'm that mean.

Singing the Flu

We don't have the full blown flu, but Kyle and I are definitely not feeling well and haven't been for a couple of days. Hanging in there and praying really hard that it doesn't turn into the icky throwing up for a week gross flu that is going around the church. No thanks, I'll pass.

I really don't want to get super sick because A) I have a house and son to take care of and B) my family is coming on Saturday to celebrate Maddox's birthday and that would stink to be sick then.

So, we're resting LOTS! We've watched almost the entire first season of 30 Rock and have watched all of Season 2 in the last 3-4 days. Yes, we're losers.

One Year Ago Today

I was huge.

I was grumpy.

My ankles were swelled up like balloons.

Little did I know, I still had 8 days left. This is actually my 36 week picture because my full term shot is on the other computer.

Randomness

Yesterday, we had a Superbowl for our youth group. It was actually a really good game, despite the fact that I really don't enjoy much about football. It was a long, exhausting day, though and when we got home at 8:30 we pretty much crashed. We went to bed, but watched about 5 episodes of 30 Rock, putting us asleep around 11. So much for going to bed early.

Today, I get to go shopping! It's been awhile since I've been able to leisurely go shopping with a girl friend. In fact, I can't remember the last time I did this. Please don't pity me, but I really don't have many friends where we live, so any time that I can spend with a friend is greatly enjoyed. I've been spending a lot of time with my friend Heidi lately, her husband used to be the Associate Pastor at our church, but resigned a year ago to pursue his doctorate in counseling. Since he's in school and working as a private counselor, she's lonely, too. So, we've been getting together for coffee about once a week and this week we're going shopping and later this week we're going to make chocolate muffins (she's pregnant and craving them:-)

Kyle and I had a really nice time on our date the other night. We haven't had many opportunities to go out just the 2 of us since Monkey entered our world almost one year ago. We went and got appetizers at a restaurant in town, went and saw Juno and even had enough time to stop and grab a cup of tea at Starbucks for about 30 min. before picking Monkey up at our friend's house. We were able to have a really good talk at Starbucks, so that was awesome.

Like I said, randomness.

Movie Thoughts: Juno

Have any of my readers seen this movie?

Kyle and I went and saw it last night, we weren't impressed. The overall message was VERY disappointing.

What are your thoughts?

I'll Take a 2 Year Old Please

I'd like to put in an order for a 2 year old, please.

Now, I'm not talking about being pregnant for 2 years and 9 months and giving birth to a 2 year old. I'm talking about a normal gestation and then just miraculously having a 2 year old.

Is it weird to say that my almost-1-year-old Monkey doesn't like being the oldest?

I watch a 2 year old 2 Fridays and a month and they're the best 2 half days of my life. Monkey adores having her here. He quietly plays on the floor with her, watches every move she makes, he truly adores her! She shares with him and is ever so patient when he snatches the toy she's playing with. I can get anything and everything done that I want it, it's wonderful! I don't have a bored 1 year old following me around the house whining at me because he wants 100% of my attention.

I'll take a 2 year old, please!
